#thepantoneproject

Any of us who ever got a DSLR knows the initial urge as you take the beautiful charcoal black, deliciously heavy equipment into your hand, that you must, you really must become a pro. It subsequently fades for most, but in those first few days, weeks, or perhaps months we are all on the lookout for a project that could keep us engaged and motivated.

Now here is a clever idea from Chicago based photographer, Paul Octavious. This one is iPhone based, but still, a great project to get you going.

Get the 100 pack Pantone Postcard set, match the colours with that of the background, and start snapping.
Here is how the pro Octavious does it:

Would you be surprised to learn that it has caught on? Here is how others have fared:

Will you try it?

Very clever resume from Gary Le Masson

You may recall Alec Brownstein, a NY based creative person buying Google PPC ads for the names of a handful of creative directors in 2010, getting a few interviews, and two job offers as a result.

Well here is another CV linked to Google that's going viral at the moment and worth a look because it's the first of its kind and it's neatly executed.

Gary Le Masson | Google Resume - CV Google:

Well done, Gary.

Super creative outdoor advertising: Push the button

Now this is really creative and with 35M+ views, it has gone viral.

This promotion was created to launch a high quality TV channel, called TNT in Belgium with the tagline 'we know drama'. Would you have pushed the button?

Give People Less - Forbes

"Too much of anything is dangerous, annoying, and suffocating. Look at what we have too much of, and offer something less. Your stakeholders will thankfully take it." (Jessica Hagy)

Beer ad wins gold for Australia at Cannes

This year's Cannes Lions, International Festival of Creativity just ended, and while Australia didn't perform quite as strongly as last year, here is a TVC that scored a prize.
Good work from Hahn superdry, but when it comes to beer ads, my fav is still the 'Big Ad' from ~2006 (second video).

Queen Elizabeth Gets Color-Coded by Pantone

"Leo Burnett in London and Pantone worked together to create this nice little Pantone wheel based on the 60 years of the British monarch's notorious color-matched outfits."

Totally useless, totally want one.

Magic & the sales pitch

Magic. Why do we love it, and why do we fall for it?

Why do we love it?
Because we know and expect deceit, but still miss it… and we are left with childlike wonder & awe.

Why do we fall for it?
Because magicians have a talent to convince their audience to see only their version of events. They know that humans have a finite capacity for information intake and if they fill this up with clever narration, fast movements, and focussed body language, the rest (the trick) will be missed.

What’s the moral of the story for selling?
-
Focus your pitch and fill up people’s capacity with the right information – otherwise they’ll miss your key points.
- Realise that you have the power to guide people’s attention. So do it.
- Challenge people’s (client’s) thinking.
- Leave an impression – a good one. Make them remember your key points.

What do YOU want to do…

before you die?

Nicole Kenney, a Brooklyn-based artist took polaroid shots of people and asked them to write on the photo, what it is, that they’d like to do before they die. Check it out for inspiration, and a smile!

Superb ad

Why? because it’s subtle. it’s not in your face obvious that it’s for Vodafone. Because it works on any language, and because it’s gentle and funny…

Driven to Distraction (30 sec TVC)

One of the smoothest cross promotion examples I have recently seen. Vic Gundotra (previously from Microsoft, but since 2007) from Google (note nice big logo in the background) praising Mercedes S Class and coining the phrase ‘magical software’… Nicely done.
