The links between bloggers' personalities and their use of words
You are what you eat/ what you read/ what you study.
Now here is a new one: You are what you blog!
According to Tal Yarkon, who analysed 694 blogs for the purposes of a research on personality and blog word usage, ‘you can tell a person's personality from the words they use’.
‘Some commentators have suggested that the internet allows people to present idealised versions of themselves to the world. Contrary to that idea, Yarkoni found that bloggers' choice of words consistently related to their personality type just as has been found in past offline research.’

Perfection and Information about information
This blog entry by Seth Godin is so good, that I had to stop myself from copying it all in here… Which reminds me of one of the definitions of perfect (when it comes to writing): not when you cannot add another word, but when you cannot take any of them away. Then you perfected it. This entry of ‘Information about information’ comes very close to that in my eyes…
“The first revolution hit when people who made stuff started to discover that information was often as valuable as the stuff itself. Knowing where something was or how it performed or how it interacted with you can be worth more than the item itself.
And why is this so valuable? Because it compounds. A tiny head start in access to this information gives you a huge advantage in the stock market. Or in marketing. Or in fundraising.
The race to deliver this essential scalable asset isn't over, it's just beginning.”

Best Alternative Professional Option
It’s exactly what Nicholas Bate was writing about in the ‘new career mindset’ series, and here is a blog entry by Seth Godin encouraging professionals to develop multiple skills.
Why? To have options. Because when you have the options, ‘not only does your confidence change, your work does as well’.
I would love to broaden my horizon, and would welcome your ideas. So tell me, what are your alternative skills? Or what skill set and knowledge do you see would be a good idea to learn about and develop in today’s world?

Bookless libraries (responding to Cultural Offering.com)
What makes a library? The building? The signage maybe? Neither. It’s the books, because a container is defined by its contents. And if books are offered in a digital format on platforms such as the Kindle or the iPad, it’s not a library anymore, rather a memory farm…
How about the home? With the arrival of various digital platforms what benefits could it possibly have to still keep collecting real books in the home? Check out this article from USA Today for some very interesting facts on those benefits…
‘The U.S. Department of Education recently undertook a monumental project called the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, which tracks the progress of more than 20,000 American schoolchildren from kindergarten through the fifth grade. Aside from gathering each child's test scores and the standard demographic information, the ECLS also asks the children's parents a wide range of questions about the families' habits and activities. The result is an extraordinarily rich set of data that, when given a rigorous economic analysis, tells some compelling stories about parenting technique.
A child with at least 50 kids' books in his home, for instance, scores roughly 5 percentile points higher than a child with no books, and a child with 100 books scores another 5 percentile points higher than a child with 50 books. Most people would look at this correlation and draw the obvious cause-and-effect conclusion: A little boy named, say, Brandon has a lot of books in his home; Brandon does beautifully on his reading test; this must be because Brandon's parents read to him regularly.
But the ECLS data show no correlation between a child's test scores and how often his parents read to him.’
Convinced about the goodness of owning/ having books yet?

How to test your decision-making instincts - McKinsey Quarterly - Strategy - Strategic Thinking
Decisions are part of everyday life – but how can we get better at them. Here is a great article on how to tackle those biases, work on our predispositions and challenge our gut instincts and emotions.
“Warren Buffett recommends extra challenge as a solution to biases that arise during acquisitions. Whenever a company is paying part of the price with shares, he proposes using an “adviser against the deal,” who would be compensated well only if it did not go through.”

55% of Online Video Viewers OK with Web Ads - eMarketer
It’s almost unimaginable that it its early days, the internet was text based.
But the majority of people are more interested in watching rather than reading, so along came the pictures, animated content, sound and video. The latter is conquering fast, growing audience day by day. The good news for advertisers is, that according to eMarketer, these people have a high tolerance towards advertisements within the video content. We tend to have a predisposition thinking that ads are intrusive, but according to a research conducted by Frank N. Magid Associates, more than half, that is 55% of online video viewers are ok with web advertisements.
