Do it with passion or don’t do it at all:
“It takes heart and energy and caring, which are scarce but renewable resources. As a result, many people are able to spend them without seeking anything external in return. Even better, the act of generosity, of giving without expectation, makes it easier to do art, to create work that matters on its own.”

Great article in the Weekend Australian by Ruth Ostrow on Turducken, Tiger Woods, greed and our world today…
‘The fact is that we live in a time of great greed. While the '80s "Greed is good" era of financial excess seems to finally be over, social greed is getting worse. There's the need to have more and more, in a compulsive way, without boundaries or limits, without even knowing why.’
Whatever she touches turns to gold…
You probably still remember (who doesn’t?) Oprah’s much publicised retirement message in November ‘09? She may not continue with the talk show, but by the look of it, it’s not a real retirement, merely a shift in focus.
One of the new areas of focus will be mobile, and soon ‘fans will be able to connect with her whenever and wherever they want with the launch of Oprah Mobile’ (Mobile Marketer).
And no doubt. Oprah Mobile will turn to gold.
Well, you should and here is why. Fabulous blog, superb post:

In the old days mass advertising was only available to cashed up companies and large firms. But with the fragmentation of audiences, and the internet’s low barriers of entry, the ‘market power theory of advertising’ is now turned upside down.
The low cost of technology that’s needed to enter the online world (blogs, social network, tagging, etc.) created and continues to create a flat market (see chart). We often speak about ‘empowered consumers’. Yes, consumers are empowered, but so are small businesses.
For companies, one way to take advantage of this internet created flat market is to shift focus from outbound or push marketing, to inbound or pull marketing and make it easy for potential customers to find businesses online. To achieve this, small businesses need a company website first and foremost. Furthermore, valuable additions are a blog, social network presence (Facebook, Orkut, MySpace), and a regularly updated Twitter feed.
Some of the key advantages of online presence and ‘inbound marketing’ are that it:
- brings more leads for less money
- builds audience engagement and a following
- generates trust (if a company is not online these days, people’s attitude is: ‘what have they got to hide?’)
- increases SEO ranking (company appears higher on search engine results).
If a company is easier to be found, that will ultimately mean more leads. In fact, both Twittering and blogging were shown to double leads, and more leads mean more customers.

The online advertising world grew out of nothing in the last 10+ years. It generates billions of dollars every year, provides a credible and effective vehicle for advertisers, and a job thousands if not hundreds of thousands. Of course it wouldn’t exist without the internet. So here is something to remember the humble beginnings of the internet itself…
Here is a cool video clip by Creativity that shows how a shocking, very creative and different advertising campaign brought awareness to Brazil’s zero tolerance policy for drunk driving which was instated in June 2008.
Twitter is the talk of town right now. It grew with unprecedented speed in the last couple of years, reached critical mass, and yesterday Twitter said, they are ready to monetize.
But there is a twist. Yet another one in the tangled world of digital advertising, where measurability and data is redefining the rules of the game and an exact ROI metric is a prerequisite of each ad dollar spent. Only interesting advertising message will survive, and the audience will decide. A Google type key-word sponsored ad placement is up for grabs, but advertisements will have to attract attention (re-tweets, made favourite, etc.) to avoid being bumped. Those making the cut will pay for referrals.
Never has Jon Wanamaker’s comment on wasting half of his advertising budget seemed so dated.
And never before has ROI seemed so sweet a concept to publishers. There is a lesson in this. If marketers want ROI, give it to them. But hey, make them work for it.
